The Foyle Special Collections Library holds over 200,000 rare or unique items – printed books, pamphlets and periodicals, as well as maps, slides, manuscripts, typescripts and photographs – ranging in date from the 15th century to the present day. The largest special collection is the historical library collection of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, which spans 500 years of world history and attracts readers from all over the world. Other areas of strength include theology, medicine and science, modern literature and voyages and travel. The visit will include an opportunity to see the current exhibition, Hand writing history: 200 years of personal diaries, held in the historic surroundings of the Weston Room, a former chapel.

Bookings for visits are open to members of the M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries only.

If subsequent to booking a place on a cpd25 visit you find that you are unable to attend, we ask that you let us know this as soon as possible.

Visits are free of charge but cancellations received less than three working days before the event will be charged a £15 cancellation fee. In the event of a ‘no-show’ on the day, £25 will be charged.

Please note that advance booking is required, you may be turned away on the day if you do not reserve your place in advance.
