This session is a follow-up to an event cpd25 held in February 2016 on the Copyright Licensing Agency’s (CLA) pilot offering.  With effect from 2019, overseas campus-based students (“OCB’s”) have become an optional add-on to the main CLA HE Licence.  We will be exploring how OCBs fall within the overall licensing framework and touching on the wider context, including things to look out for when planning or resourcing courses for overseas campuses or collaborative partners.  The session will also offer insights into working with colleagues across institutions to achieve the best results in the provision of library and learning resources for these students.

Programme:

10.00 – Introduction to event and housekeeping

10.10 – Irene Barranco Garcia – “Working collaboratively with Partners to enhance our students’ experience”

10.45 – Ian Collins – “Who is the partnerships librarian?  Effective working without a partnerships office”

11.20 – Break

11.35 – Sarah Brear – “CLA licence coverage for Overseas Campus-Based Students”

12.10 – Question and Answer session with Panel and Exchange of Experience

12.25 – Close

Speaker biographies:

Irene Barranco Garcia studied Library and Information Science at the University of Alcala de Henares in Madrid, the city where she was born. Irene moved to London in 2022 where she has lived since and worked always in libraries. Irene is a Chartered librarian with sixteen years of experience working in the Higher Education sector and joined the University of Greenwich in 2008 as an Academic Librarian. In November 2015 Irene took up the position of Collaboration, Compliance, and Copyright Manager within the Information and Information Services directorate. Her priority is to ensure students at partner institutions have the best experience as members of the University. She also has responsibility for ensuring the University meets the requirements of copyright law and licenses in the context of a changing digital environment.

Ian Collins: As the Partnerships Librarian I work with UWE Bristol Collaborative Provision Partners, as well as staff within UWE Bristol, to ensure that partner student access to library resources and the development of skills to use them is an effective part of our partnership working. I have had a few roles within UWE Bristol Library Services and continue to involve myself in varied projects.

Sarah Brear: Sarah has worked for 15 years at CLA, where she is responsible for account management and development support across the HE, FE, and Independent/International Schools sectors. Prior to joining CLA, she worked in music publishing and at the British Library.
