Reading lists are a perennial issue in the academic Library. Resource lists, book lists, what are they in the first place? How do you engage with academics? How do you meet the needs of students and staff in the reading list process? How do the reading lists systems relate to other library and university systems? Why choose one supplier over another? What are the benefits for the library and information service e.g. with NSS? This event brings together speakers from a number of  institutions who will be exploring the issues listed above and explaining how they have, or at times haven’t, managed to overcome them.

Programme so far:

Elizabeth Chamberlain, Systems and Research Librarian, Buckinghamshire New University
‘Digital reading lists – how to herd cats maybe?!’

Since 2015 we have been implementing the PTFS Rebus reading list system within the University. This has resulted in the launch of the Digital Reading List system in September 2016 – http://bucks.ac.uk/home_eu_students/library/Reading_lists.  As can be expected – this has not been a smooth path with a number of logistical and technical bumps on the way. This paper will take you through our implementation process and outline the issues encountered along the way with solutions applied to date. There are still a number of issues for which there seem to be no easy answers….

Full programme to follow. We currently have speakers on the following suppliers: LORLS, Leganto, Talis Aspire and My Reading.

Venue and refreshments:

The Hardy Room, London Mathematical Society, 57-58 Russell Square, London, WC1B 4HS
