Supporting staff and students with autism and learning difficulties [TG2/Autism]

This event is about the provision of support for autistic and neurodivergent staff and students in higher education institutions, and will consist of speakers from higher education institutions as well as a speaker from Ambitious about Autism which is the national charity for autistic children and young people. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to ask the speakers questions during the event.

It will be of interest to any library and information professionals who are part of the front line library service team who may provide services to autistic or neurodivergent staff or students, or who have an interest in the provision of services and support for disabled staff and students.

Speakers:

Clare Caccavone: As Programme Director, Clare Caccavone has responsibility for Ambitious about Autism’s national Training and Consultancy team, the award-winning Autism Exchange work experience programme and the national Employ Autism Programme.

Clare began her career in publishing followed by leadership roles within further education including HEIs. Clare has developed a range of training and careers education related programmes for a variety of underrepresented groups through senior roles across student services; careers, information advice and guidance; student finance and welfare; student admissions and enrolment, and marketing and communication.

After a varied career spanning 15 years within further education, Clare moved to Ambitious about Autism and has developed a variety of programmes and services including Treehouse School sixth form careers development; Learner and Family Engagement; Youth Participation; Autism Exchange and now oversees the development and implementation of the national Employ Autism Programme.

Clare is an experienced leader, speaker and trainer as well as a passionate advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion everywhere.

Daniela de Silva is the Academic Engagement and Development Manager (Accessibility) in the Library and Archive Services at the University of Westminster. Alongside Eleri she co-manages a team of Librarians and Learning Developers who support twelve schools across four campuses.

Daniela is an experienced higher education practitioner with expertise and longstanding experience in supporting students with neurodiverse conditions such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and ASC. In collaboration with CETI (Centre for Education and Teaching Innovation) at the university of Westminster, Daniela led on the “Being Westminster: Inclusive Course Design” project which has now become essential part of the university Access and Participation Plan. Daniela has keen interest in academic professional development, innovative learning and teaching, inclusive course design and digital accessibility. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).

Eleri Kyffin is the Academic Engagement and Development Manager (Resources) in Library and Archive Services at the University of Westminster. Alongside Daniela and one other colleague she co-manages a team of Librarians and Learning Developers who support twelve schools across four campuses.

  • This session is virtual and will run via Zoom. Once your booking has been confirmed, joining instructions will be emailed the day before the event.

Cancellations less than one week before the event will be charged a 50% cancellation fee. In the event of a ‘no-show’ on the day, the full fee will be charged.
